18 years on Google AdWords changes it’s name to…….Google Ads.

OK so perhaps not the most exciting tech news, but it does that Google are looking to mix things up a bit

The name change is part of a major re-branding campaign, according to Sridhar Ramaswamy, Senior Vice President, Ads & Commerce at Google, to simplify their product range within advertising to give businesses a better overview and more opportunities to reach customers and potential customers across different channels, screens and formats.

In the future, Google’s advertising products will be divided into three new brands:

  1. Google AdWords becomes Google Ads
  2. DoubleClick and the Google Analytics 360 Suite are merged into the Google Marketing Platform
  3. DoubleClick for Publishers and DoubleClick Ad Exchange will merge into Google Ad Manager

Ramaswamy also emphasizes that no product migration or training is required to take advantage of the new opportunities. In addition to the names, the appearance will change slightly, but the core functionality remains the same.

With these actions, Google really begins to move away from a complex range of ad products and focus their focus on a much simpler set up. It will be exciting to see how it all works in practice.

Businesses can expect to deliver smarter, faster and even better ads in the future when Google rolls out the three new advertising products Google Ads, Google Marketing Platform and Google Ad Manager over the next month.
